The Thompsons discuss family history; the Mapleside School near Primghar, Iowa and Mary's experiences teaching there; the Mapleside and other Friends meetings; Carney's family's immigration to Paullina, Iowa from Norway; farm chores; renting and buying farmland; the cost of fertilizer and pesticides; nutrition research conducted during World War II; conscientious objectors; and the deaths due to illness of two of their adult children.
